This piece is an experiment gone wonderfully well.
After seeing similar work by artist HUNT SOUL, I became inspired to acquire and paint a block of wood. I found this block in a shipping pallet that had been discarded in front of the Broadway Studios building. With a base of several layers of acrylic paint, I utilized my experience is relief woodblock print making to carve designs into the block, followed by sandpaper to give the piece a faux-patina.
This piece was showcased in the 2024 Fresno City College Student Art Show, where I invited people to pick the piece up, intimately examining its textures and form. I derived alot of fulfillment from witnessing the interactions that people shared with the piece.
PALLET BLOCK

This post showcases the block before and after I worked on it.
